What is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a minimally invasive dental procedure that aims
to preserve a severely infected or damaged tooth. Inside each tooth lies a soft
tissue called the pulp, containing nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp
becomes infected due to deep cavities, cracks, or trauma, it can cause
inflammation, intense pain, and even abscess formation.
During a root canal, the dentist carefully removes the infected
pulp, cleans and disinfects the root canals, and fills them with a
biocompatible material called gutta-percha. This seals the canals and prevents
further infection, effectively saving the tooth from extraction.
